The hotel dates back to the 18th century and has been restored in 1994 to maintain the old original look but at the same time combining modern facilities. Acquired in 1974 by the current owners, this country house, which has had various uses over the centuries, from housing to a school, dispensary and health centre, has been carefully refurbished and adapted while retaining all the original architectural style of the manor houses of Madeira.
