The snake boats that take part in the races are considered vehicles of Lord Parthasarathy. Aranmula is renowned the world over for its marvel called Aranmula Kannadi – the famed metal mirrors. It is a unique craft and wonder of metallurgy. The Aranmula Kottaram made of carved wood, is an architectural wonder with a proud history dating back over 200 years. It is the place where the 'Thiru Abharanam' - the ornaments of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala – are kept as a stopover during its annual procession from Pandalam to Sabarimala.
