The Royal Heritage Hotel (Sonam Palgey) is a 3 Star (accreditation awaited) heritage hotel located in Deorali in Gangtok. The property is situated in the heart of the capital, minutes away from Gangtok Centre. It is 124 km from Bagdogra Airport and 128 km from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. Also known as the Elephant Mansion, the hotel has its origin rooted in the royal heritage of Sikkim which was then an independent country. The Royal Heritage Hotel was constructed in 1963 for royal guests during the coronation of Sikkim's last King Palden Thondup Namgyal. Dignitaries from all across the world were travelling to Sikkim during that time to attend the coronation. Due to lack of luxurious accommodations for the guest, the king ordered for construction of this mansion. From the time of their arrival till their departure, the dignitaries were given royal Sikkimese hospitality. The Royal Heritage Hotel aims to take the same tradition forward and provide the best Sikkimese hospitality to its guests. The guests can experience Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepalese traditions all into one, blended with royalty. This hotel is the only heritage hotel in the entire state. The cultural heritage and tradition of Sikkim is fabricated in the vision of The Royal Heritage Hotel, which is reflected in every aspect of service offered. There are 30 rooms in the hotel and each has its own a history. The guests can experience a royal and traditional feel with all the modern facilities. The hotel offers comfortable accommodation along with a host of facilities and services, in the lush greens environs of the hills surrounding Gangtok. So, come enjoy Sikkimese hospitality in a royal way!
