ATDC, expanded as Alleppey Tourism Development Co-operative Society Ltd., is the pioneer of tourism in the district, with its office situated in Thathampally. The movement was started in 1987 to utilise the tourism potential of the beautiful town of Alleppey to the fullest. Subsequently, houseboats became the most significant part of tourism in the state, providing a unique rapport to the accommodation style.Each houseboat is equipped with modern amenities like cable television, air-conditioned and attached bath with luxurious toiletries. Wooden floors, classic furniture and elegant curtains are the different aspect of the living spaces. The crew also includes a chef who prepares and serves authentic local specialties including delicious fish and prawns. The path that these houseboats traverse through is lined with coconut trees and guests can behold beautiful sceneries while they are in their restful places of stay. Air-Conditioned Premium, Air-Conditioned Deluxe and Punting are the three types of houseboats that guests can choose from.
